Workbench83 draws upon the entrepreneurial spirit of the Loyalists, who first arrived in Saint John, NB in 1783. One hundred years later in 1883, the Saint John Free Public Library became the first free library in Canada. One hundred years after that in 1983 the SJFPL moved into its current location in Market Square. Workbench83 is one of the ways we hope to establish the library as the ultimate "Third Space", looking towards 2083 and beyond.
More than just a room filled with tools, a Makerspace is a place where ideas can take bloom and take form, where things can get repaired instead of thrown away, where friendships can begin , and where fun is always welcome! Pay a visit to the library and discover the equipment, supplies and technologies made available to you and to the community.
Sewing machine, button maker, Photoshop, Cyberdirector video editing software, Makey Makeys, Little Bits, 3D printer, 3D scanner, and various tools and parts.
3D printing is available anytime the library is open. Contact the Reference Desk at 643-7224 to book an appointment.
Costs for 3D printing is .10 cents per gram.
